BTA Sports is partnering with Home Run Forecast to bring stronger weather-based intelligence into its MLB projections.

Weather plays a major role in how far a baseball travels. Temperature, wind, humidity, and stadium-specific conditions can turn a warning-track flyout into a home run, or keep a well-hit ball in the park. Home Run Forecast helps quantify those conditions through its Home Run Forecast Index, giving BTA another valuable input for projecting home run outcomes.

Early testing shows a clear difference.

Batters in games that ranked in the bottom 20% of HRF index values averaged 0.09 home runs, while batters in games in the top 20% averaged 0.12 home runs. At the game level, matchups in the bottom 20% averaged 1.90 total home runs, compared to 2.12 total home runs in the top 20%.

That matters beyond home run markets. More home runs generally lead to more total runs scored, which means the HRF data can also provide useful context for game totals. A weather environment that increases carry can change not only the likelihood of individual home runs, but the overall run-scoring outlook for a matchup.

By adding HRF index values, BTA’s total home run market predictions improved by 1.2%. That may sound small, but in betting markets, small edges matter. If a sportsbook is charging around 4% juice, a 1.2% model improvement can offset roughly a quarter of that cost by itself.

This partnership does not mean weather replaces player skill, matchup analysis, ballpark factors, or market pricing. Instead, it gives BTA a sharper way to measure how favorable the environment is for offense.

For users, the result is a more complete projection process. BTA Sports will now be better equipped to identify games where weather conditions could boost or suppress home run potential, while also adding valuable insight into overall game totals.
