Day 9 of the World Cup belongs to Team USA, as the co-hosts look to keep the momentum rolling and secure another massive group-stage win. After opening the tournament with an electric attacking performance, the U.S. now has a chance to make an even louder statement in front of a fired-up home crowd.
Beyond the U.S. spotlight, Brazil looks for a bounceback performance against Haiti, Scotland tries to keep its upset energy alive against Morocco, and Türkiye aims to rebound against Paraguay.USA vs. Australia
The U.S. has already demonstrated where the strength of this team lies. They have one of the best attacks in the entire tournament.
Folarin Balogun is on fire, and after the opening round of group play, he is already in contention for the Golden Boot. The engine behind this squad is Malik Tillman, who covers more ground than any other player and helps drive the team forward with energy and purpose.
Australia, however, is no pushover. They have two quick and powerful African-born strikers who are hungry and ready to go. Australia has made it as far as the Round of 16 in a World Cup before, and this team has a blend of veteran players who understand each other so well that their tactics are locked down. They also share confidence and inspiration with their young, rising stars.
There is a lot on the line for both teams, but all hopes will still be alive regardless of the result.
Seattle is home to the famous “Beast Quake,” a fan-founded term for crowd noise that registered on the Richter scale during an NFL game. Many believe this match could set a new record for registered crowd noise. Noise at that level will make Australia feel as if the U.S. has an added player on the pitch.Pro Paul’s Pick: USA wins.
Scotland vs. Morocco
This game is going to have a lot of thrills and spills, and I mean that literally, since the Scottish fans have already demonstrated their commitment and that they are all in. They proved their merit by drinking all the beers in Boston, including the overstock of Ultra Lights and Sam Adams.
They will bring joy, grit, and Braveheart effort to the pitch.
Morocco has talent, precision passing, and the ability to creatively maneuver when on the ball, but the unimpressed Scots might just deck them. It has been 28 years since Scotland played in the World Cup, and it took 36 years for Scotland to actually win a World Cup game by defeating Haiti 1-0 in the opener. I just do not see the Scots rolling over to the heavily favored Moroccan side.
If there is going to be a major upset in the tournament, besides the Cape Verde Blue Sharks stunning the world with a tie against Spain, it could come from the fighting spirit of the Scots.
Scotland will also have a chance to avenge their 1998 World Cup loss to Morocco, delivering some potential karma payback.Pro Paul’s Pick: Scotland wins.
Brazil vs. Haiti
Fans all across the planet are waiting for Brazil to bring back beautiful football, “Jogo Bonito.”
Brazil is loaded with talent, but they play a low-risk, two- and three-touch possession style that only shows flashes of individual brilliance. After a tough opening first-round match that took time for confidence to kick in, Brazil will need a bounceback and must be ready at kickoff against a highly talented and motivated Haitian team.
Haiti brings some of the best individual skill, flair, speed, and passion in the tournament, and the team has become tactically disciplined as well.
For many years, Haiti was absent from World Cup competition, so their fans turned to support Brazil at past World Cups. But now that times have changed, fans can swap out Brazilian jerseys and scarves for their own country’s colors.
This will be emotional, and Haiti will not back down, but Brazil has too much talent and too much pressure to respond after its opener.Pro Paul’s Pick: Brazil wins.
Türkiye vs. Paraguay
Group D favorite Türkiye will need to bounce back after a tough 2-0 loss to Australia. Lucky for them, they now face a dejected, lowly ranked Paraguay side that looks to be the group’s weak link.
In many ways, Türkiye dominated the Socceroos from the land down under, except on the scoreboard, where it only matters.
Anticipate Türkiye to come out flying, no pun intended, pressing to get an early goal while defending with intent. Türkiye must elevate its game with the attitude that offense is the best defense.
Paraguay still has pride and toughness, but after a difficult opening performance, they will need to find answers quickly. Türkiye has the quality, urgency, and motivation to get back on track.
