Yordan Alvarez was the most complete offensive player in the American League throughout July. The Houston Astros slugger led the AL in home runs, RBIs and OPS while also ranking among the league leaders in hits and batting average.
What separated Alvarez from the other top American League hitters was his ability to combine elite power with consistent contact and plate discipline. He remained a threat in every situation, whether he was driving the ball over the fence, extending an inning by reaching base or delivering with runners in scoring position.
Alvarez produced one of his best games of the 2026 MLB season on July 4 against the Tampa Bay Rays. He collected three hits, launched two home runs and drove in six runs, including a walk-off homer that completed Houston’s comeback victory.

Dylan Cease delivered a dominant July for the Toronto Blue Jays, earning the official American League Pitcher of the Month award. The veteran right-hander combined an elite strikeout rate with excellent command and some of the best run prevention of any AL starting pitcher.
Cease was nearly unhittable across his five July starts. Opposing batters managed only 15 hits in 120 at-bats, producing a .125 batting average that ranked as the lowest in Major League Baseball. His 0.72 WHIP also led MLB starting pitchers, while his ERA, innings pitched and strikeout total all ranked near the top of the American League.
The Toronto Blue Jays ace opened the month with seven scoreless innings against the Seattle Mariners. Five days later, he delivered eight shutout innings with 11 strikeouts against the San Francisco Giants, continuing a stretch in which opposing lineups struggled to produce any meaningful contact.
Cease saved his best July performance for the Boston Red Sox. On July 25, he threw a one-hit complete-game shutout while matching his season high with 12 strikeouts. He carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and became the only MLB pitcher to record a complete-game shutout during July.
