CJ Abrams and Chris Sale delivered two of the best performances in the National League during July 2026.

Abrams powered the Washington Nationals with an impressive combination of power, contact and speed. Sale continued his dominant season for the Atlanta Braves, limiting opposing offenses while consistently generating strikeouts and working deep into games.

CJ Abrams established himself as the National League’s most productive offensive player during July. The Washington Nationals shortstop led the NL in home runs, OPS and slugging percentage while ranking third in batting average and RBIs.

What separated Abrams from the other leading National League hitters was the variety of ways he impacted games. He produced extra-base power from the leadoff position, consistently reached base and remained a threat to steal whenever he got aboard. His six stolen bases gave opposing pitchers and catchers another concern beyond his ability to drive the ball.

Abrams recorded a hit in 19 of his 23 July games and reached base in 21 of them, giving Washington consistent production at the top of its lineup. He also ranked third in the National League with 15 extra-base hits, demonstrating that his strong batting average was supported by meaningful power.

His best stretch came during the final week of the month. Abrams went 15-for-26 with six home runs, 12 RBIs and eight runs scored across six games, earning National League Player of the Week honors. That run included two multi-home run performances and five games with multiple hits.

Abrams also made Nationals history by setting a new single-season franchise record for home runs by a shortstop. With elite power, consistent contact and additional value on the bases, Abrams was the clear choice for NL Batter of the Month for July 2026.

Chris Sale delivered another dominant month for the Atlanta Braves and earned National League Pitcher of the Month honors for July. The veteran left-hander completed five starts and held opposing hitters to a .186 batting average while allowing Atlanta to win four of the five games he started.

Sale’s command played a major role in his success. He issued only four walks during the entire month, finishing July with an 8.5 strikeout-to-walk ratio. His ability to attack the strike zone without allowing consistent hard contact prevented opponents from creating extended rallies.

Three of Sale’s five July appearances were scoreless. Against the Texas Rangers, he completed seven shutout innings while allowing only two hits and no walks. He delivered another impressive performance against the New York Mets, surrendering two hits across six scoreless innings while recording nine strikeouts.

Sale’s most productive strikeout performance came against the San Diego Padres. Although he allowed three earned runs, he struck out 11 hitters across six innings and continued to generate swings and misses against a dangerous lineup.

The Atlanta Braves left-hander finished the month with 11.33 strikeouts per nine innings and only 1.33 walks per nine. That combination of strikeout production, control and run prevention made Sale one of the most complete starting pitchers in the National League.
