Pro Paul’s Picks: Brazil Leads Today’s Slate

Qatar vs. Switzerland

witzerland enters this match as the top favorite to win Group B and set up a favorable path in the newly expanded 48-team format. A strong group-stage finish could likely match the Swiss against a third-place group finisher, while a tougher path could mean facing a Group K opponent such as Colombia or Portugal in the knockout stages.

Switzerland is an aging but experienced team, featuring Granit Xhaka, Gregor Kobel, and Breel Embolo as key leaders. Their experience and organization should make them difficult to break down.

Qatar is looking to improve from its early exit at the 2022 World Cup and will be hoping to win its first World Cup match. That being said, it will not be easy, especially in today’s matchup. Qatar’s success will largely hinge on the creativity of winger Akram Afif and veteran striker Almoez Ali, who was their leading scorer during the qualifying stage. However, I do not anticipate Ali getting many chances to shoot on target against Switzerland.
Pro Paul’s Pick: Switzerland wins.

Brazil vs. Morocco

This is the Game of the Day.

Watch out, the mighty Brazilians are coming, and the highly talented Moroccans are ready. Brazil’s offensive talent is led by Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, and Matheus Cunha, who are some of the best players at their respective positions in the world. Although Brazil finished fifth in qualifying, they still have one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Alisson Becker, along with high-quality defenders such as Gabriel Magalhães and Marquinhos.

Morocco emphasizes balance, organized shape, minimizing individual errors, and being clinical on set pieces. Without Aguerd at center back, there is a question of whether Diop and Riad have the chemistry it will take to handle Brazil’s movement at pace.

Brahim Díaz and Bilal El Khannouss give Morocco genuine quality in the attacking third, while Achraf Hakimi’s overlapping runs from right back create width and a dangerous delivery threat.

These two countries have met in World Cup competition before, but that was way back in 1970, when Brazil defeated Morocco 1-0. This match is going to be hard fought up and down the pitch for 90 minutes and should be one of the most entertaining games in group play.
Pro Paul’s Pick: Brazil wins.

Haiti vs. Scotland

It has been 28 years since Scotland played in a World Cup, and according to reports, these guys are not just coming to the 2026 Cup to be visitors.

Haiti has only been to the World Cup once before, back in 1974, and this team is emotionally charged beyond belief. Football, or soccer, for Haitians is about hope. For many years, Haitians adopted Brazil as the team they supported. Now, they find themselves replacing those flags with their own country’s colors, excited by the fact that they are actually in Group C with Brazil.

With all that said, for generations this small Caribbean island nation has produced highly talented players and has always taken pride in being skillful on the ball.

This game is an interesting matchup between the never-ever-give-up attitude the Scots bring to the pitch and the inspiration Haiti brings through its top-notch skillful players.

Anticipate this game to have highs and lows, along with momentum changes. It should be exciting and interesting for all fans.
Pro Paul’s Pick: Scotland wins and over 2.5 total goals.

Australia vs. Türkiye

This will be a game of skill, tactics, and could end up looking like a turf battle.

Over a hundred years ago, these two nations battled against each other in the trenches. Now, in much more friendly times, they will take out their differences, particularly in styles of play, on the pitch.

Türkiye enters the tournament favored to win Group D, although after Team USA’s performance last night, many opinions may have hopped ship and now see the U.S. as the favorite to win the group. Türkiye will face a very disciplined Australian team that has not been talked about much, despite this being Australia’s sixth successive World Cup and coming off two wins at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Türkiye was impressive in qualification with a 6-1-1 record and has the quality and skill to create dangerous combinations in the final third. Australia, on the other hand, may just be too much for Türkiye to handle on corners and free kicks.

This matchup has the ingredients to be physical, tactical, and tense from start to finish.
Pro Paul’s Pick: Draw.
