Weekend MLB Standouts: Detmers, Walker

This past weekend gave us a little bit of everything: overpowering starts, loud power displays, and hitters who kept showing up in run-scoring spots. Across the weekend, these five players separated themselves by turning strong stat lines into real game-changing production.

1. Reid Detmers (Angels)

Reid Detmers delivered one of the most dominant pitching performances of the weekend, nearly shutting down Texas by himself. He went 8.0 innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 earned run while striking out 14 in the Angels’ 2–1 win over the Rangers. Detmers completely controlled the matchup, pounding the zone, missing bats at an elite rate, and giving Texas almost nothing to build on offensively. When a starter can work that deep, avoid free passes, and rack up 14 strikeouts, it becomes the kind of outing that stands out across the entire league.

2. Christian Walker (Astros)

Christian Walker powered Houston’s offense all weekend, going 5-for-12 with 3 home runs, 6 RBIs, and 4 runs scored across the Astros’ sweep of the Cubs. His biggest stretch came over the final two games, when he homered twice on Saturday and followed it with a three-run shot on Sunday. It was exactly the kind of power-driven weekend that can carry a lineup.

3. Ketel Marte (Diamondbacks)

Ketel Marte stayed red hot for Arizona, putting together one of the best offensive weekends of any hitter. He went 7-for-12 with a home run and 5 RBIs against Colorado. Marte was the perfect leadoff hitter, piling up multi-hit games on both Saturday and Sunday while driving in runs in key spots. His ability to combine contact, extra-base power, and run production made him one of the most complete hitters of the weekend.

4. Gavin Williams (Guardians)

Gavin Williams turned in a dominant start of his own, shutting down Philadelphia in a tight 1–0 Guardians win. He threw 8.0 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits with 11 strikeouts and 0 walks, giving Cleveland exactly the kind of ace-level outing it needed. Williams attacked hitters all night, avoided traffic, and never gave the Phillies a chance to create momentum. In a one-run game, that kind of efficiency and command is massive, and Williams delivered one of the cleanest pitching lines of the weekend.

5. Jordan Walker (Cardinals)

Jordan Walker made the most of St. Louis’ Saturday doubleheader, stuffing the box score across both games against Cincinnati. He finished the day 4-for-9 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs, giving the Cardinals impact production in both matchups. Even with the Cardinals splitting the day, Walker’s power and run production made him one of the weekend’s biggest offensive standouts.
